Dr. Sune Lindqvist (Swedish wiki article, will need translated) was born on March 20, 1887. He received his PhD from Uppsala University in 1916 with a thesis on the Holy Eskils(?) diocese. In 1910 he became a teaching assistant at the Royal Academy of Letters, a position he kept until 1927. He was then appointed associate professor in the Nordic and Comparative Archaeology Department at Stockholm University . He then a professor of archeology at the University of Uppsala years 1927. He started the excavation under the old Norse temple here at Gamla Uppsala in the spring of 1937.
